PASTURAL LIVESTOCK IN THE REGIONS OF THE SOUTHE OF RUSSIA: DEVELOPMENT CONDITIONS AND RESULTS
Abstract
The article discusses the distribution of pastures in the structure of agricultural land in the regions of southern Russia. In two regions of the Southern Federal District (Astrakhan Region and the Republic of Kalmykia), pasture dominates in the structure of agricultural land. In the Republic of Kalmykia its share is 86.4%, and in the Astrakhan region it is 74.3%. In nine districts of Kalmykia, the proportion of pasture is more than 80% of the land. The main part of the region's pastures is concentrated in five districts of the Astrakhan region. In the Volgograd region, pasture occupies less than a quarter of agricultural land and in two districts of the region its share is more than half. Comparison of data on the number of cattle, sheep and goats in 2005 and 2016. testifies that in the Republic of Kalmykia and Astrakhan region there is an increase in the number of cattle, sheep and goats, and in the Volgograd region - a decrease in the number of cattle and an increase in the number of sheep and goats.
