INTERREGIONAL DIFFERENCES OF DEMOGRAPHIC AGING IN RURAL RUSSIA
Abstract
The global trend of demographic aging in economically developed and some developing countries has affected the rural areas of Russia to varying degrees. The purpose of the study is to carry out a comparative analysis of interregional differences in the demographic aging of the Russian countryside. To assess the spatial differences, a typology of Russian regions was carried out in terms of the level and rates of aging of the rural population on the basis of cluster analysis using the k-means method. The results of the study showed that the most demographically old are the regions of the fifth cluster, where the share of the population over 65 is about 20%, over 70 - 13%, over 80 - 6%, respectively. The depth of aging increases to a greater extent in the fifth and first clusters. The rural population of the second and third clusters, where the deepening of aging is less intense, is distinguished by a lower proportion of people over eighty years of age. Only in the regions of the fourth cluster the share of the population over 80 years old does not increase, amounting to only 1% over the past nine years. It should be noted that people over 80 are becoming an increasingly important group in the structure of the rural population, their share increased to 4% in the first and 6% (2019) in the fifth clusters.
