Abstract

Village in post-reform times at the beginning of the 21st century  experienced challenges in the economic structure and innovative technological changes in agricultural production: the share of non-agricultural employment of the rural population is increasing, the meanings and style of their life are changing. Sociological understanding of these processes in the context of a collision between innovative and archaic models of village existence necessitates turning to fundamental concepts: complexity, rationality, meaning, which are discussed in the article. The author, based on the data of his own sociological research, shows the possibilities of their operationalization.
