ATTITUDE OF RURAL SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TOWARDS THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATION
Abstract
Based on the data of the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey of Economic Situation and Health of the Population (RLMS) of HSE University for 2024, the level of awareness of rural education workers and rural students aged 14 to 17 about artificial intelligence (AI) technology is analyzed. A comparison is made of the attitudes of these categories of respondents towards the use of AI for purposes related to education. It is revealed that the majority of respondents in both categories have very weak understanding of AI, while rural teenage schoolchildren demonstrate greater activity in using AI programs both episodically and on a regular basis. It is established that only one third of rural education workers consider AI as an opportunity to gain new knowledge and are skeptical about the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on their work. A digital divide in the use of artificial intelligence technologies between urban and rural educational audiences is revealed. It is concluded that participants in the educational process, especially in rural areas, are still at the very beginning of the path of using AI technologies to improve the quality of education.
